 I appreciate your point about getting firefighters to slow down.  Sometimes though, I think that's an excuse for people who won't do their job.  When the second or third engine company is consistently the first to make entry on a structure fire, maybe someone is being too 'cautious'.  It's all about risk vs reward.  If the potential reward is great we should take great risks.  If you don't want to take risks, do something else.  Seriously.  Now I agree that I shouldn't make someone else's problem mine by being reckless, but there's a fine line between reckless and aggressive and I think we need to be careful not to swing that pendelum too far into the cautious side of things.

Something else I thought of - I think the increase in some departments of FFs also being hazmat techs helps us to know when to slow down.  Hazmats are painfully slow and cautious and rightfully so.  I think that is helping the overly aggressive see that there is another way.
